Interfaith group to honor Los Angeles firefighters

The Valley Interfaith Council will honor the Los Angeles city and county firefighters, along with other honorees, at its annual Spirit of VIC Awards Dinner on May 8 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel Grand Ballroom in Universal City.

Fritz Coleman of KNBC-TV will serve as master of ceremonies.

Each year, the council honors extraordinary individuals and organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to the council’s mission of working together to address the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of people living in the San Fernando Valley.

“The L.A. city and county fire chiefs and firefighters were the obvious choice to receive the Spirit of VIC Community Leadership Award,” said VIC President Cambria Smith. “The personal sacrifices of these dedicated public servants are beyond our capacity to imagine. They braved walls of flame driven by 80 mile per hour winds, dodged fire tornadoes, inhaled toxic smoke and toiled day after day on the front lines.”

VIC is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization that serves seniors, families and individuals in crisis.
