Did it take years on an analyst’s couch? Or did he come to the realization after some deeply personal soul-searching? However it happened, comedian Michael Gelbart learned something important about his dating habits.
“There’s a pattern to my relationships,” he likes to say in his act. “Most of the woman I go out with, the guy they dated before me was rich. Then the guy they date after me? Rich. There can be only one or two reasons for this. Either the incredibly shallow women I choose see something special in me, or . . . I told them I was rich.”
The Canadian native is sure to share more personal insights when he co-headlines this month’s installment of Live Standup Comedy on the Hill at 8 p.m. Sat., Sept. 8 at Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. Joining him is fellow comic Darren Carter and the evening’s host, Jason Love.
Gelbart has cracked wise on “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” and “Comics Unleashed” as well as written and acted in the TV movie “A Very Cool Christmas.”
Carter uses impressions, observations and improvisations as he discusses such topics as neck pillows and haunted houses. He has performed on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “Comics Unleashed,” and had a supporting role in the film “Be Cool.”
Doors for the 18-and-over show will open at 7:30 p.m. Beer and wine can be purchased with valid ID. Parking is free.
