If measure H fails, Home Depot seems inevitable

Do we really care who is behind Measure H? The opponents point to the businesses that support the measure as though that in itself is a good reason to vote against it. The only thing that should matter is what it says.

The citizens of Agoura Hills do not want big-box stores in our city, and they will demonstrate this by voting for Measure H.

I am disappointed in some members of the city council, whom I expected to embrace and champion Measure H, and use it to further their "slow growth/anti-big-box" position. Instead, there wasn’t a single council member that was willing to stand up to the rest and choose to respect the wishes of a very large number of the citizens. I guess they feel that the citizens didn’t understand what they were signing, and they should leave these decisions in the capable hands of the city council.

There have been measures like Measure H in other cities. Can anyone point to a single failure, because I can point to many places that have the large big-box stores, those cities enjoy the tax revenue, but I certainly would not want to live in most of them.

I am convinced that if measure H fails, we will see a Home Depot in Agoura Hills.

When the resulting congestion materializes, the city council will proudly point to the fact they have more tax revenue to widen some road and build parking lots and add stop lights to deal with the added congestion caused by the big-box stores.

I like and respect most of the members of our city council, and believe that they have the interest of our community at heart. However, I cannot bring myself to agree with their views on Measure H. The bright light of additional tax revenues has blinded them to the importance of maintaining the character of our city.

This measure can be a wonderful thing for Agoura Hills. I wish they would see this and work within its constraints to maintain the beauty of our city.
