House concert to feature singer-songwriter pair

Russ and Julie’s House Concerts will feature singer-songwriters Jeff Young and Jonathan Pointer at 8 p.m. Sat., Jan. 22 at a location in Oak Park to be provided with reservations.

Cost including coffee and dessert buffet is $15. All proceeds are donated to the performers.

Jeff Young has been the keyboard player and backup singer in Jackson Browne’s band for the past 12 years.

He has also performed with Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Alanis Morissette and Bruce Springsteen among others. Young has also been a popular singer-songwriter playing L.A. clubs including The Troubadour, Largo Cafe, 14 Below, and The Mint and he appeared regularly on the television show "Ally McBeal" as part of Vonda Shepard’s bar band.

He is currently the musical director, producer and primary composer for Malibu Sound Music Productions in Los Angeles.

Malibu Sound is described as the first global recording company dedicated to helping artists, songwriters and performers from around the world turn their creative ideas into reality.

Jonathan Pointer is a singer-songwriter who produces "haunting portraits of love, self-doubt and the passage of time, all delivered with a wit, wisdom, and sense of craft and focus that sets him apart from the usual pack of singer/songwriters," according to Russ and Julie Paris.

Musically, he travels in the same circles as Tom Waits and Randy Newman.  He also sites Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson as major influences. Pointer’s music is an eclectic mix of country, jazz, folk and rock.
