Hot chili, hot cars an unbeatable combination

The Knights of Columbus, Simi Valley Council 5803, will present the 31st annual Chili Cook-off and Car Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., June 10 on the St. Rose of Lima School grounds, 1305 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

Entertainment includes country band Caught Red Handed and classic rock band The Vinyl Gypsies. Guest emcee is J. Perez of The Ranch 99.1 radio.

Chili tasting is 50 cents per ticket. Chili prizes are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place.

Returning this year is the popular Best Restaurant Competition. Trophies will be awarded.

Entrance requirement for ICS chili cooks is a minimum of six gallons of People’s Choice Chili. ICS cooks will also be charged $50 if they are not ICS members.

Entering the Peoples Choice Category only is free, but a 10-gallon minimum must be cooked.

The car show will feature 16 categories for classic, custom, street rods, muscle, sport, trucks and special interest vehicles.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded. All car entrants will receive goody bags.

Car entrance fee is $40. Entry is limited to 130 vehicles and last year’s event sold out.

Family fun will include rides, a rock climbing wall, moon bounce, game booths, over 80 vendor booths and live remotes from local radio and TV.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, ice cream, funnel cake, snow cones, beer, margaritas and soda will be for sale.

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. All active military with ID get in free. Overflow parking is available across the street at Royal High School.

Event proceeds will assist the Knights in their charitable works.
