Home-invasion robbers strike midday in Calabasas

Three men forced their way into a home in the Greater Mulwood area of Calabasas Aug. 6 and attacked two young adults who were inside.

The incident on Charlestown Drive occurred in the middle of the afternoon, Sgt. Michael Maher of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau said.

The men knocked and rang the doorbell, and when one of the residents opened the door they forced their way in.

“The adult was confronted at the front door. There was a brief fight, and then the home was entered by what we believe to be three male African-American suspects,” Maher said.

The sheriff’s spokesperson didn’t know whether or not the intruders were armed when he spoke to The Acorn Tuesday.
The men stole jewelry and other valuables. During the incident a second person returned home and was also attacked. When the robbers fled the scene it isn’t known whether they left on foot or by car. The victims called the sheriff to report the incident.

Detectives from the Lost Hills station are working with other sheriff’s units and the Los Angeles Police Department to solve the crime.

“In this case, two of the three suspects who were at the front door were wearing orange construction-type vests, so we would be interested in anybody around that day or before having seen anyone suspicious knocking on their door and wearing this type of outfit,” Maher said.

Home invasion robberies can be prevented, authorities say. Residents should ask questions through the door or window and call police if they are concerned about their safety.

“We recommend that you do not open the door to anybody that you are not expecting. But we do advise that you make yourself known,” Maher said.

“In my experience, in general these criminal crews are not looking for confrontation, they’re looking for an unoccupied house,” he said.

Residents who have surveillance video recordings of any suspicious activity along Charlestown Drive, Magna Carta Road, Liberty Bell Road and Paul Revere Drive between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 6 are asked to share their footage with detectives.
