Hillmer has a vision for the mountains

that all the employees here are aware of it and share this with visitors, so that we can work together to preserve our natural resources for future generations."

Hillmer believes that great scientists and engineers in the U.S. are already working on alternative energy sources and he believes that the National Parks can become a consumer. "I believe our parks should be used as demonstration sites where they (general public) can see it and kick it and smell it," Hillmer said.

For Hillmer, reaching the public with information that will motivate them to buy energy-efficient products is just part of job. "We have people coming in here every day and we can say, ‘The next time you buy a microwave oven, make sure that there’s an energy star (label) on it,’" Hillmer said.

He admits that in some cases energy efficient products might cost more, "but it pays for itself in just a few weeks," he said.
