Here’s the scoop about dogs

When did it become acceptable for residents of our area to use the private property of their neighbors as their own personal toilet? I am referring to their dogs.

I am not a dog owner. Yet, for some reason, I have to put up with ugly gold patches on my front lawn. Even worse, I have to constantly remove dog leavings from my lawn. Yes, some of my dogowning neighbors pick up after their pets. But many “forget” to do so and still others simply open their doors and let their dogs go around the neighborhood unattended.

If you can’t take the time to take care of your own dog, then get rid of it. But please do not foist your pet and its waste onto my property.

Even “conscientious” dog owners seem to feel it is okay to allow their dogs to urinate on other people’s property. In addition to ruining a lawn on which I have spent many dollars to maintain, my children like to play on my lawn and don’t want to end up covered in and smelling of dog urine. It’s bad enough that my kids cannot even play at certain parks due to them coming home reeking of urine.

If you think about it, there’s no chemical difference between canine and human urine. Allowing your dog to urinate on my lawn is no different than was I to send my children to urinate on your property. Yet, somehow the former is perfectly acceptable behavior to dog owners.

Dog owners should show a little consideration and make sure that their pets do their business in the one place that it is appropriate to do so- their own property. You bought the dog, so please use your own property as its toilet, not mine.
