Habitat seeks land donations

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization, has been searching for land to build new affordable housing in the Conejo and Simi Valleys.

In the past, local cities have partnered with Habitat and purchased such properties for these purposes. Property gifts may be for the entire value or made in conjunction with municipal funding, if available. The land should be zoned residential for single or multiple units.

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build simple, decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity, which is used to build more houses.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. The families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor ("sweat equity") into building their homes and the homes of others.

Since 1983, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County has built 22 homes in the county. For more information on becoming a land donor, please call (805) 485-6065 or visit www.habitatventura.org.
