The children from St. Jude Catholic School Guitar For Kids program performed a benefit concert for Manna of Thousand Oaks on June 7, playing a variety of music, including classical solos and quartets, ragtime, folk, pop, rock and country.

Approximately 150 people watched the performances of the children ages 5 to 8 on ukuleles and guitars, along with some hula dancers.

Four students wrote their own music, a country song and a flamenco piece. The music was accompanied by several singers from the St. Jude choir and a young drummer and bass player.

The concert brought in approximately 500 personal care items for the Manna shelves and almost $200 in cash donations. Many people arrived with not just one item, the price of admission, but bags filled with items.

This week, the students will bring the goods to Manna and receive a tour of the food bank so they can learn how it operates.

St. Jude Guitar for Kids is open for enrollment to all local children.
