Among the field of candidates for Calabasas City Council, Barry Groveman is uniquely qualified to provide the mature and effective leadership that is sorely needed today in city hall.

As longtime homeowner activists, we have been opposed to the Ahmanson Ranch project for years. It is one of the most critical unresolved issues confronting the city of Calabasas. There are also other perplexing issues facing Calabasas that do not seem to get resolved.

It is time we recognize that the current members of our city council have good intentions, but much, much more is needed. We need an experienced leader who can devise innovative strategies, manage budgets and bring solutions and closure to these and other issues.

Barry Groveman is a nationally recognized former environmental crimes prosecutor who sent the first corporate polluters to jail in California history.

He has successfully taken on oil companies who have polluted the drinking water supplies in Santa Monica, Morro Bay and other cities throughout California. He was responsible for halting the construction of the Belmont Learning Center in downtown Los Angeles, one of the biggest environmental and financial fiascos in L. A. history. In the Belmont fight, Barry Groveman battled against the very same attorneys who now represent Ahmanson. He is also the co-author of California’s Landmark Environmental Law, "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986."

We could not buy this experience and yet it is available to us with a single vote. For this important reason, the Calabasas Park Homeowners Association took the unprecedented step of endorsing one and only one candidate for city council—Barry Groveman.

Support from other HOAs and neighbors has resonated throughout Calabasas.

We strongly believe that Groveman will unite our community and provide the "proactive" leadership that has been lacking.
