Griffith to host Light Festival

On Fri., Nov. 23, Griffith Park will be transformed into a wonderland of light displays, music and celebration as Los Angeles kicks off the seventh annual "Holiday Light Festival." The festival will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. daily through Wed., Dec. 26.

The light festival is jointly sponsored by the L.A. Department of Water and Power and Department of Recreation and Parks and is free.

Festival organizers have partnered with the Department of Recreation and Parks and the L.A. City Fire Department’s Holiday Toy Program for Needy Children. Visitors are encouraged to place an unwrapped gift in designated boxes at the entrance of the light festival. L.A. City fire fighters will collect toys each night and distribute them to children throughout the region.

Visitors are invited to walk or drive through the festival, traveling the one-mile section between Crystal Springs Drive and the L.A. Zoo to view millions of lights that feature Los Angeles landmarks and holiday themes.

The one-mile long festival along Crystal Springs Drive offers one-way traffic to ensure optimum viewing. To walk the festival, visitors are advised to park at the L.A. Zoo and proceed down the walking path along Crystal Springs Drive.

Weekday visits are encouraged for those seeking minimal congestion. For details, call the general information line for the festival at (323) 913-4688, ext. 9.
