Gratitude shown for those who
fight breast cancer

As a cancer survivor and organizer of the American Cancer Society’s sixth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk, I was proud to see the more than 11,000 Southlanders who participated in this year’s walk at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on Oct. 20.

To see fellow cancer survivors and their families, businesses, community and school groups, celebrities and health care workers walking to raise approximately $600,000 for the fight against breast cancer overwhelmed me.

I dream of a day when no woman will ever have to face this disease. The outpouring of support brought us closer to making my dream a reality. Thank you to every single walker and their pledge supporters. Your commitment to the American Cancer Society’s groundbreaking breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient service programs has made a difference.

I urge anyone who would like to make a donation or to send in their outstanding pledges to do so via mail or online at www.cancer.org/makingstrides (click on the Los Angeles site), so that this critical work can continue. Together we have taken a giant step toward a world free from cancer.
