Grant for Oak Park High

Oak Park High School received a grant as part of a collaboration with Ventura County Community College District and other local school and business organizations.

The three-year grant is funded by the California Department of Education’s Career Pathways Trust. The school received about $95,000 of the $13-million grant to support programs that will give students the skills they can use in careers in areas such as visual and media art, software and systems development, and engineering design.

The grant was awarded to a local partnership called Ventura County Innovates and will be disbursed to local high schools and community colleges to improve career and technical education programs for their students.

Oak Park superintendent Tony Knight said the program’s goals are to “improve, create, increase and implement” career opportunities for students starting in high school.

The program aims to create connections between high schools and community colleges. Workbased learning and job opportunities are also part of the program.
