Grant aids starving horses

California Coastal Horse Rescue, a l0-acre nonprofit equine rescue and sanctuary in Ojai, recently received a $15,000 challenge grant for its new hay fund from the Hind Foundation.

The foundation will match every dollar contributed to buy hay for the abandoned, abused and starving horses in the rescue’s care. CCHR’s annual feed bill is more than $27,000.

The rescue has helped horses for more than 12 years. CCHR coordinates temporary foster homes and takes calls for advice for horses in distress.

The rescue works with law enforcement and fire departments to help with community horse evacuations during disasters.

All assistance is provided free.
