Grand Finale musical concerts taking the stage at Calabasas High School promise to end the school year on a spectacular note.

Several bands will be jammin’ at the first concertscheduled tonight, including the Jazz A and B bands, Jazz Combo, and the Black, Gold and LAB jazz bands.

Josh Barroll and Aaron Kohen direct the Calabasas High music program. According to Lori Weiss, a parent active in the school’s music boosters, the Gold Band will perform a Dizzy Gillespie piece from 1940 called “Pickin’ the Cabbage” at the first jazz concert. The piece was arranged by Kohen to kick off the concerts and will be performed at all of the Grand Finale events, scheduled May 17, 30 and 31.

The Grand Finale concerts will also feature three choirs, two a cappella groups, and senior solo performances. The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will perform what Weiss called “extraordinarily moving pieces.”

Kohen also wrote “Petite Fantasie for Band” as a tribute to the Concert Band. The Concert Band will perform his work at the May 30 presentation.

“Once again, the CHS music department will dazzle you with its talent as another school year comes to a close,” Weiss said.

Tickets are $6. The concerts start at 7 p.m.

Calabasas High School is at 22855 W. Mulholland Hwy. To purchase tickets or request further information, call Sherri Schreiber at (818) 2220271 or contact the boosters organization via e-mail at chsmusicboosters@charter.net.
