Get ready to salsa at Oxnard fest


The Oxnard Salsa Festival will turn up the heat as it celebrates salsa in all of its permutations: food, music and dance.

The 24th annual fest, presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, kicks off with a concert with Latin soul singer Leslie Paula and Latin bandleader Yari Moré from 7 to 9 p.m. Fri., July 28.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Lawn seating is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For tickets, go to oxnardsalsafestival.com/ friday-concert.

The main event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sat. and Sun., July 29 and 30 at Plaza Park, Fifth and B streets.

The weekend event will have live music, a salsa-tasting tent, vendor marketplace, international foods, a kids’ play zone and a salsa recipe contest.

The “Dancing with Our Community Stars: contest and charity fundraiser will step off at 1 p.m. Sun., July 30.

The lineup for the main stage Saturday is: Arsenio Rodriguez Project from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Orquesta Bonko from 2 to 4 p.m. and Louie Cruz Beltran from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.

Musicians on Sunday are: La Verdad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Angel Lebron y Su Sabor Latino from 2 to 4 p.m. and Janeen Puente from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.

Admission and parking are free. Main-stage seating on Saturday and Sunday is $5. No coolers or pets are permitted.
