Calling all 5 to 8 year olds: become a "Garden Sprout" at the Arboretum of Los Angeles County. Now kids can have their very own garden at the Arboretum, not to mention a whole lot of fun in the dirt. The Saturday Kids’ Gardening Club teaches kids how to care for a garden plus much more. Highlights include dirt and worm day, creating pansy note cards, building birdhouses, creating their own terrarium, planting a vegetable garden, making flower treats to eat and finally celebrating their gardening success with a harvest party. The Kids’ Gardening Club will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month from Oct. through June at the Roots and Shoots Garden. The fall quarter dates are: Oct. 6, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1; the winter dates are Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and March 2; and the spring dates are April 6, May 4 and June 1. The cost for members is $25/quarter or $10/Saturday; non-members $30/quarter or $12/Saturday. Reservations are required. To register, please call Jill Berry at (626) 821-4624. The Arboretum, a 127-acre botanical garden and historical site, is at 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia.
