Future Foundation seeks young applicants for leadership program

The Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation is accepting applications for the Youth Congress Leadership Program that will begin in November.

The program, which started last year, is patterned after the successful leadership events for adults that are offered by various local Chambers of Commerce.

The service project from last year was to investigate the possibility of establishing a Teen Court in the western end of the Conejo Valley much like the one in the Calabasas area. Program participants will continue the work on a teen court as their 2011 project.

The program covers a wide range of topics, including introduction to leadership, local government, law enforcement, health services, recreation, education, human services and business. Classes take place at appropriate locations such the sheriff’s station, school district and hospital, and are conducted by their representatives. Every visit will be different and will include tours, discussions and presentations.

All of the cities in the region will be participating.

Young Congress meetings will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from Jan. 12 to April 27, 2011.

Students will also meet on Wed., Nov. 17 and Dec. 8.

Applications are due to the Future Foundation by Nov. 10 and can be obtained from the student’s school office or online at www.clvff.org.

Information is also available by calling the CLVFF office at (818) 880-1054. Notification of acceptance into the program will be sent to students by Nov. 12.
