Jim Friedl Jr. was appointed to director of Division 5 at the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, in Calabasas, by the board of directors last Tuesday, filling the board vacancy left by the late Ann Dorgelo.

According to district officials, Division 5 covers a large portion of the city of Agoura Hills. He will serve the remainder of the current term which expires in January 2007.

Local government has always been a focal point for Friedl. A resident of Agoura Hills since 1977, Friedl is the assistant general manager for the Conejo Recreation and Parks District. He worked for the city of Thousand Oaks for 10 years, first as the assistant city attorney, followed by the position of deputy city manager. Friedl also served as an Agoura Hills planning commissioner from 1994 to 1998.

Friedl told the board he has “a lot to contribute” to the water district, and that he’s “most interested in helping the local community.”

“It’s local government and I’m very interested in local government in general,” Friedl said. “It was a good opportunity that came up at a perfect time.”

Friedl said he is very interested in how the recently granted Tapia plant permit will be implemented.

Joseph Bowman, vice president of the board and director of Division 4, said he’s known Friedl since he was a student and athlete at Agoura High School.

Friedl is married with four children, all of whom attend Yerba Buena Elementary School.

Las Virgenes Municipal Water District provides water and wastewater services to residents of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. The district’s fivemember board of directors are elected by division and serve four-year terms.
