Free CERT classes

The Community Emergency Response Team of the Los Angeles County Fire Department will offer free classes from 6 to 9 p.m. March 8 to April 19 and from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., April 23 at Agoura Hills City Hall Community Room, 30001 Ladyface Court.

CERT training was developed through FEMA to provide basic fire safety and lifesaving skills to residents. Following a major disaster, police, fire and medical professionals may not be able to meet the demand for emergency medical attention so residents may need to rely upon one another to help with immediate lifesaving needs, particularly in isolated neighborhoods that may be cut off from the main roads.

Tuesday classes will cover disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical operations, light search and rescue, terrorism, disaster psychology and team organization.

The Sat., April 23 class will be a review, drill simulation and graduation.

Participants must attend all sessions in order to receive a certificate of completion.
