Former gang member to speak

Victor Rios, an associate professor of sociology at UC Santa Barbara, will speak at Cal Lutheran University at 7 p.m. Tues., March 19 in the Lundring Events Center.
Rios, who dropped out of school and joined a gang at age 14, was helped by a teacher and a police officer, eventually earning a Phd from UC Berkeley. He will discuss his experiences growing up on the streets of Oakland and present his research on juvenile justice, masculinity, race and crime.
