For the Troops event is May 20




Californians For Making America Great Again Inc. Ventura County will collect wish list items for donation to For The Troops from noon to 2 p.m. on Armed Forces Day, Sat., May 20, in the Janss Marketplace parking lot at the corner of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

The event is also in honor of Military Appreciation Month and National Police Officer Week from May 14 to 20.

The Ventura County newly-formed GOP charter will accept wish list items for the all-volunteer and nonprofit For the Troops, based in Simi Valley, which has distributed more than 169,565 packages to troops overseas.

Letters of support from children and adults and tax-deductible donations for postage of items will also be accepted.

The wish list items include granola power bars, oatmeal, raisins, nuts, gum, hard candy, powdered drink mix, coffee, tea, trail mix, toaster pastries, applesauce, fruit cups, peanut butter and jelly, dried Asian noodles, soup, beef stew, and beef jerky (no pork) and cans of tuna, chicken and fruit.

Non-food wish items include athletic socks, lip balm, toothpaste, cotton swabs, pipe cleaners, male and female hygiene products, stationary items, pens, greeting cards, magazines, newspaper comics, AA and AAA batteries, hand-held or travel-size games, DVDs, CDs and books of crosswords and puzzles.

Health items such as aspirin/ ibuprofen, eye drops, foot powder, sun block and cold/ allergy medications can be donated.

Aerosol items cannot be accepted.
