Fire station gets its wish

A city and its residents have helped a local fire station.

Fire Station No. 144 of L.A. County Fire Department gets a new device. The station is at Lindero Canyon Road and Foxfield Drive.

In June 2003, during a city celebration for the grand opening of Foxfield Park, residents from Westlake Trails learned that the station wanted a thermal imager, which the county couldn’t afford.

A thermal imager enables firefighters to see through smoke to find trapped or injured victims. It cost $12,124.

Determined to show their appreciation for firefighters, Jeanne Harrison and other members of the Westlake Trails Homeowners Association established the Foxfield Firehouse Fund immediately following the park event.

Other homeowner associations and residents joined the efforts of Westlake Trails in raising $5,472 for the Foxfield Firehouse Fund.

On March 3, Harrison and the city’s public safety committee suggested that the city match the funds to buy a thermal imager.

The city agreed that the purchase would provide a direct benefit to residents and made a donation matching the funds already raised.
