Finalists for Arts Council awards




The Ventura County Arts Council recently announced the finalists who will be recognized at the Art Stars Awards Sunset Dinner Celebration on Wed., Sept. 21 at the Tower Club in Oxnard. The award recipients will be announced at the event.

Nominations were made of individuals, organizations and foundations who have given generous amounts of time, talents or funding in support of the arts in Ventura County.

The panel reviewed nominations based on the significance and magnitude of the nominee’s contributions, leadership in and length of commitment to the arts community, and the impact of the nominee’s contribution whether within their immediate community or countywide.

Following are the finalists in each category.

Business Supporting the Arts: Fox Fine Jewelers, Ventura; Pistol Productions, Ventura.

Public Agency Supporting the Arts: City of Moorpark Redevelopment Agency; Conejo Recreation & Park District.

Nonprofit Arts Organization Serving the Community: Art Trek Inc., Thousand Oaks; Ojai Art Center; Ojai Valley Museum; Michele Pracy.

The Salvador Bravo Award for Individual Artist serving the Community: Michele Chapin of Ventura; Craig Morton of Agoura Hills; Don Ulrich of Ventura.

Arts Philanthropist Creating a Community Legacy: Joyce and Ernest Carlson of Santa Paula; Nancy Israel of Thousand Oaks.

Arts Education Leadership in Bringing Arts to the Classroom: Georgeanne Lees of Thousand Oaks; Kingsmen Shakespeare Company Educational Tour of Thousand Oaks.

For Bringing National Recognition to Ventura County: Larry Chambers of Ojai; Ojai Music Festival.

Lifetime Achievement: Gerd Koch.

Student Artist Serving the Community: Paul Davin Patterson of Moorpark.
