OH BEAUTIFUL CITY—Agoura Hills is the only city in Los Angeles County to be featured in a video created by filmmaker Noam Kroll for visitcalifornia.com, the state’s tourism agency. Independent filmmaker Noam Kroll loves Agoura Hills so much that he decided to include the city in a video competition for Visit California, the state’s tourism bureau.

He lives in Los Angeles but says that he visits Agoura Hills often to relax and enjoy the rural landscapes in the Santa Monica Mountains and the laid-back vibe of the city.

Kroll took part in a competition for Visit California to promote tourism in the state.

Visit California is a nonprofit organization working with the state’s travel industry to promote the state as a travel destination.

The challenge called for videographers to make videos that highlight road trips in California. The short films will be used as part of Visit California’s marketing program.

Agoura Hills was among several areas featured in Kroll’s video.

“I just think (Agoura Hills) is very representative of California as a whole,” he said, adding that the city offers diversity, including access to beautiful landscapes and proximity to the beach.

A 29-year-old Canadian-born filmmaker, Kroll lives in Hollywood and travels to Agoura Hills regularly.

“I’ve always been drawn to Agoura Hills, as its natural beauty lends itself so well to photo and video shoots, and as such (I) have captured many shots for different productions there,” he said.

His tourism video includes footage from Agoura Hills, Malibu, San Francisco, Mammoth, Death Valley, Palm Springs, parts of Orange County and many areas in between.

Agoura Hills is the only section of Los Angeles County included in the video, Kroll said.

“It’s really sort of the beautiful sweet spot in Los Angeles,” he said.

Kroll said the Santa Monica Mountains and the 20-minute drive to the beach are ideal, and he often drives north from his home in Hollywood to hang out in Agoura Hills.

“For me, personally, I live in Hollywood and love to get away for the weekend,” he said, adding that he would live in Agoura Hills if his work weren’t in Hollywood.

Kroll is apparently on the same wavelength as officials with the City of Agoura Hills and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. The city and Chamber have been collaborating on a tourism initiative to promote all that the area has to offer.

“Agoura Hills and the Conejo Valley are a great stop when driving from north to south through the state of California,” said Agoura Hills Mayor Illece Buckley Weber. “We welcome visitors to our city to rest, relax and catch their breath.”

Jill Lederer, president of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, said the tourism initiative included the recent launch of a new website, Conejo.com. The site gives visitors a glimpse of where to stay, eat, drink, shop and play.

Adam Haverstock, manager of government affairs and tourism at the Chamber, said Agoura Hills is one of the most beautiful places in Southern California. The city is the gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

“We invite anybody to come out and see for themselves,” Haverstock said.
