FATAL—Firefighters extinguish the blaze that erupted when car and truck collided Tuesday morning.

A freeway collision involving a big rig and a car at Chesebro Road in Agoura Hills killed two people early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 12:15 a.m. on the eastbound lane of the 101 just west of Chesebro Road.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.

The collision involved a 2008 BMW sedan and a 2012 Kenworth Truck, the California Highway Patrol says. The BMW became trapped underneath the rear of the truck and was fully engulfed in flames.

The car’s 21-year-old male driver from Woodland Hills and his 24-year-old male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Both men were from Woodland Hills.

The driver of the big rig was a 38-year-old Ventura man. His condition is unknown.

“The cause of the collision is unknown and due to the fire, we can not tell if the driver was under the influence or not,” the Highway Patrol’s Leland Tang said.

A SigAlert was issued and traffic was reduced to one lane. All lanes were reopened at about 5 a.m., the CHP said.
