Field is set for Oak Park elections

Multiple candidates file for schools, water district, MAC



The November election isn’t just about national politics. In Oak Park, there are several races with local implications.

Four men are running for two openings on the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council, which is the governing body that addresses local business, land use and government issues and makes recommendations to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

Longtime MAC members Deena Parry and Todd Haines announced they will not seek reelection.

The fouryear terms are being sought by Drew Fine, a car dealer; Derek Ross, an insurance risk manager; Michael McReynolds, an engineering manager; and Alon Glickstein, vice president of sales and quality for an aerospace company.

Oak Park is in an unincorporated area of Ventura County so it has no mayor or city council. Instead, MAC members serve in an advisory capacity to the county under the auspices of Supervisor Linda Parks.

For the Oak Park Unified School District Board of Education there are also four candidates.

Incumbent Jan Iceland is seeking reelection. Barbara Laifman, who was appointed in December to replace Jim Kalember who resigned, is running as are Edward Kaz, a public school teacher, and Philip Bonoli, an attorney. each seat is for four years.

Michael Paule, an Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council member, is challenging longtime incumbent Ron Starke for his four-year seat on the Triunfo Sanitation District Board of Directors.

The Triunfo board oversee an $18- million budget that provides water, sewer and reclaimed water to Oak Park, North Ranch, Bell Canyon, Lake Sherwood and parts of Thousand Oaks.
