Families can to walk for kidney cause




The Nephcure Foundation will present its third annual Nephcure Walk-Ventura County at 9 a. m. Sun., April 29 at Conejo Creek North Park, 1379 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

The walk will raise funds to benefit the foundation, an organization seeking a cause and cure for two kidney conditions, nephrotic syndrome and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.

Nephrotic syndrome occurs when there is a malfunction in the kidney’s filtering system causing proteins in the blood to leak into the urine and out of the body. There is no known cause or cure for the syndrome.

FSGS is a disease in which scar tissue develops on the parts of the kidneys that filter waste out of the blood

Registration and pre-walk activities at 9 a.m. will be followed by the walk at 10 a.m. The event will also include airbrush tattoos, a martial arts demonstration, a silent auction and raffle.

Walkers who raise or donate $100 or more will receive a free T-shirt.
