Facts about the compost facility

A recent letter to The Acorn regarding the costs of operating the region’s composting facility contained several misstatements that need to be addressed.
The writer claimed that closing the facility would save $2 million per year, which is incorrect. Biosolids shipped from the area would still need to undergo two stages of local treatment prior to shipment elsewhere and those functions cost $1 million annually.
