The Triunfo Sanitation Board has three seats up for election this November, but with the retirement of board Chairman Mike Paule, an additional seat is available.
Paule, a Triunfo board member since 2008, retired and moved to Texas. His seat will be filled by appointment after the election.
Vice chair Janna Orkney is the longest serving member of the sanitation board. She was elected in 2006 and is running again. If elected, this will be her fourth term in office. Orkney is an Oak Park resident and serves on the Oak Park Planning Committee for local parks, which is operated by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
Susan Pan was appointed to the board in January last year to fill a vacancy. This is her first time running for a seat. Pan is a civil engineer with over 30 years of experience managing water and wastewater systems. She currently serves as the deputy director of the Water and Sanitation Department for the Ventura County Public Works Agency.
Raymond Tjulander, another appointee, joined the board in July 2017. He has filed papers to run for a seat on the board. Tjulander is a former aerospace engineer who worked with NASA for 38 years. He helped design space shuttle engines and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory.
Orkney, Pan and Tjulander are the only people who have announced their candidacy for the Triunfo seats.
Paule’s seat was not up for election until 2020. His appointed replacement will step in at the end of this year. As the vice chair, Orkney will take over as for Paule if she is reelected.
The Triunfo Sanitation District serves over 30,000 people in Oak Park, Lake Sherwood, Bell Canyon and the Westlake Village portion of Thousand Oaks.
