The city of Calabasas Environmental Commission selected three people to receive the 2007 Carl Gibbs Environmental Excellence Awards.

Calabasas Planning Commissioner Dave Brown was named in recognition of his commitment to enhance the environment by advocating policies and plans for the protection of local wildlife, the preservation of oak trees, creeks and riparian habitat, the “smart” development of real property in Calabasas, and the acquisition and maintenance of open space in the city.

Dr. Randal Orton, a Las Virgenes Municipal Water District scientist, was honored for his commitment to the environment as demonstrated by a willingness to use the scientific method as a tool to improve the Malibu Creek Watershed.

Trisha Kane, an A.E. Wright Middle School teacher, was chosen for her efforts to promote recycling and resource conservation at the Calabasas school, especially among special education students.

The Environmental Excellence Award was established in memory of the late Carl Gibbs, a founder of the city and an environmental commissioner who served the city for 15 years.
