Entries sought for prestigious Japanese translation competition





The third annual International Translation Competition is seeking applicants to submit translations of pre-selected works of Japanese literature (fiction and literary criticism). There will be two sets of awards, for translation into English and German.


The competition is held to encourage the appreciation of Japanese literature and is sponsored by the Shizuoka, Japan Board of Education. The prefecture of Shizuoka has produced many of Japan’s leading artists and writers.


Cash prizes will be awarded ranging from about $900-$10,000 and grand prize winners will also be offered grants for a free year of study in Shizuoka.
