Enjoy an extraordinary evening at the Inn

Renowned for its beautiful and enchanting setting of gardens, flower-fringed paths and grounds adorned with rose arbors and European statuary, the Westlake Village Inn has hosted celebrities, dignitaries, industry leaders and travelers from all over the globe.

The Inn is also notable for its wonderful fare. At 7 p.m. on July 11 in the Provence Building, the Inn will team with Chateau St. Jean to present an evening of the very finest foods and wines available.

Each course will be superbly matched to the cuisine of Chef Ray Swanson, executive chef at the Inn.

For more than 25 years Chateau St. Jean has tried to identify and acquire, by region, the very best grapes available for their wines. It was one of the first California wineries to produce wines from specific single vineyards.

Two of these outstanding vineyards will be featured at the July 11 dinner: the "Robert Young" Chardonnay and the "Le Petit Etoile" Fume Blanc. The heralded Cabernet Sauvignon "Cinq-Cepages," 1996 was voted the No. 1 wine in the world last year by The Wine Spectator magazine.

Each wine will be paired with a plate for this special dining event.

Wines

Le Petit Etoile Fume Blanc: It shows abundant aromas of peaches and melons and fig, pineapple and grapefruit flavors with lovely textures that are both creamy and refreshingly crisp.

Robert Young Vineyard Chardonnay: Lemon, ripe pear and creamy vanilla notes fill the nose of this Chardonnay. A sweet floral entry leads into honeysuckle, apple and nutmeg flavors that persist throughout a long, smoky, vanilla finish. For the past several years it’s consistently received 90 or higher by The Wine Spectator.

Sonoma Pinot Noir: Presents cherry and plum fruit in the nose along with subtle scents of pepper, cedar, tobacco and smoke. On the palate, the wine offers cassis and plum fruit, with soft, supple tannins and a long pleasant finish.

Cabernet Sauvignon "Cinq-Cepages": 75 percent Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with the other four Bordeaux varietals. The wine is dense, rich and complex, with layers of mineral, plum, cherry and toasty oak. It has a broad, intense and deeply flavorful finish.

1995 Special Select Late Harvest Johannisberg Riesling, "Belle Terre Vineyard": A deliciously sweet dessert wine with a slightly musky nose of spiced apricots and orange marmalade. It finishes with spice and honey notes.
