FINISHED—The Westlake Medical Center is demolished Monday.

Crews tore down the Westlake Medical Center at 4415 S. Lakeview Canyon Road in Westlake Village last Monday, bringing to an end a more than 15-year struggle to keep the hospital running in one form or another. The site belongs to Hospital Corporation of America, the parent company of Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. HCA has been trying unsuccessfully to sell the 6.5-acre parcel, which is valued at about $10.9 million.

Westlake Hospital was built by a doctors group in 1972. A legal dispute arose as to whether it could be used as an acute care or a cancer center. HCA regained possession and turned the hospital into an outpatient rehabilitation and urgent care center. In 2001 the emergency services closed and in 2005 the rehab center moved to the Los Robles East Campus in Thousand Oaks, leaving the Westlake facility vacant.
