Emergency response topic of Oak Park meeting

Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks will host an Emergency Preparedness and Response town hall meeting at the Oak Park Community Center in Oak Park on Mon., Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

The meeting is intended to give police, fire and emergency response officials an opportunity to speak with residents about what to do in an emergency.

The meeting comes soon after the Topanga Fire last month, which burned 27,000 acres in East Ventura County and West Los Angeles County and forced thousands of residents to evacuate their homes.

Parks said since the blaze, her office has received a number of suggestions and questions from residents about evacuating and how best to communicate during an emergency.

Representatives from the Red Cross, the Ventura County Fire Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, volunteers from the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, the CHP, and members of both the Community Emergency Response Team and the Disaster Assistance Response Team will be on hand to field questions from East County residents.
