Easton steps up for AHS baseball

Equipment valued at $5,000 was stolen from the Agoura High freshman baseball team on March 2.

In a show of goodwill, the team’s sponsor, Easton, which sells baseball and softball equipment, replaced the stolen gear with a surprise delivery last week.

“It showed up out of nowhere,” said Mike Cordero, the Chargers’ varsity head coach. “I was not expecting this. It’s pretty cool.”

On March 2, burglars vandalized the freshman field, littered the grounds with trash and broke into the equipment shed, stealing catcher’s gear, bats, gloves, sunglasses and brand-new cleats that were still in the box, according to the coach.

Cordero found out about the burglary the following day, and police interviewed the players for official statements on March 4.

Easton sponsors the Easton Tournament, which features some of the best high school baseball teams in Southern California.

“This really hit the freshmen hard,” Cordero said. “They were struggling a little bit dealing with how it all went down. This will be a good boost.”
