On Jan. 31, 38 volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 127 helped Daniel Deitch work on his Eagle Scout project at Paramount Ranch near Agoura.

At the ranch’s Old West town, crews assisted the Hidden Hills Boy Scout in removing old decayed railroad ties from the back parking lot. The railroad ties contained creosote, a poisonous substance that presented a hazard to the environment and the people who visit the western town each year.

The group also removed railroad ties, inserted cement parking bumpers and cleaned the area of general debris. Scouts repaired a gap at the entrance of the bridge leading from the parking lot to the picnic area. The volunteers also completed the repainting of a wall in the event area and swept the entire town of the massive amount of leaves which had collected over recent months.

Daniel’s project was completed in one day. Ranger Mike Malone of the National Park Service assisted him with his work.
