Drug abuse expert to speak

Community Action Network of the Conejo Valley has invited internationally known drug prevention speaker Milton Creagh to discuss alcohol and drug problems during sessions at three local high schools.

Creagh will be featured at Newbury Park High School during two student assemblies on Tues., Oct. 24 and a parent/adult assembly at 7 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 25 in the school’s Performing Arts Center. He’ll speak to students at Westlake High School on Tuesday and Wednesday, and at Thousand Oaks High School on Wednesday.

Creagh graduated with honors from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Fla. where he received numerous awards for his efforts to get students more involved in solving community problems. School officials and news reporters say they have never had young people react to a speaker the way they respond to Creagh, who has spoken to almost a million people annually and was featured in the Conejo Valley in 1998.

"I think we have some kids who are scared," Creagh said.

"Some kids are dealing with things they don’t know how to handle, and we have some parents who aren’t helping."
