Drive-thru costs

Businesses and customers might appreciate drive-throughs in Calabasas, but what are the negatives?

Cars idling, waiting in line— like at In-N-Out Burger where the cars can have long backups—even running out into the street or parking lots causing traffic circulation problems. With close to 40 percent of Americans being grossly overweight, sitting in line doesn’t help.

Global warming and air pollution also need consideration. An idling car pumps pollutants and carbon into the air. Given all these factors, drive-throughs should not be permitted.

Perhaps, where drive-throughs are permitted, both a carbon and healthcare tax should be added to the cost of each menu item to discourage the practice.
