Someone laced raw meat with poisoned grain and put it on a Thousand Oaks open space trail, killing at least one dog, said Glen Kinney, a ranger for the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency.
The dog died from the poison last month.
"People need to keep their dogs on a leash so they don't get into poison," Kinney said.
He thinks the poison wasn't meant for dogs, but for coyotes.
"Whoever did it, to kill dogs or coyotes, is a really sad person," Kinney said.
