Did city council bend the facts

Agoura Hills City Council launched an unfounded attack last week against the county of Los Angeles, claiming that it had not been consulted regarding Heschel West’s project adjacent to Agoura Hills.

What a shameless effort to rewrite history!

Heschel West purchased its land off Chesebro in 1998. Heschel widely discussed its plans to build with virtually every agency in the region, including the city of Agoura Hills, starting in 1999. Heschel West revised its environmental impact report for public review in 2002 and a revised version in 2005.

In addition to three hearings before the Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission, the Heschel West project has been discussed at length in front of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the city of Calabasas, the city of Hidden Hills and has regularly been in the newspapers for the past three years.

During this time, representatives of Heschel West have met with every single Agoura Hills City Council person and with many of their staff.

If the city has not been “consulted by the county,” it has been their own doing. They have been unwilling to meaningfully engage. It takes two parties to have a dialogue.

Even at last week’s city council meeting, Mayor Corridorri made clear that no effort on Heschel West’s part to mitigate impacts would ever convince him that this project deserves approval. He has and continues to take the path of obstructionist instead of taking a leadership position to find solutions.

The Agoura Hills City Council has been elected to lead, not just simply complain.
