Developing young leaders at Reagan Library

COMMENTARY Youth leadership

Children are our future, and the Reagan Library in Simi Valley is working to help youths learn how to lead.

On Nov. 11, in collaboration with the Annenberg Presidential Learning Center, the library presented the Reagan Leadership Summit 2017.

The inaugural summit for young adults ages 15 to 25 sold out with over 400 attendees.

“Our goal is to extend the legacy of President Reagan by raising up the next generation of citizen-leaders,” said Rebekah Harding, coordinator for the summit. “The power of these events is that they take place in an environment overflowing with historical memorabilia and documentation of leadership moments that mark significant events in our culture.”

The day included presentations and panelists, primarily Reagan Library youth development program alumni now in college or beyond. These include graduates of Harvard, Vanderbilt and other top schools, as well as activists in Washington, D.C. The youthfulness and passion of the presenters engaged the audience of mostly high school students.
