Democrats gather for garden party fundraiser

The Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley will host its 11th annual Garden Party on Sat., Sept. 7 at the Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Welcoming will begin at noon with a silent auction and a no-host bar. Lunch will be served at 1 pm.

The keynote speaker will be Sandra Fluke, Los Angelesbased attorney and social justice advocate. Best known for her advocacy for gender equality and reproductive justice concerns, she came to national attention in February 2012 when congressional Republicans prohibited her from testifying and instead heard from a men-only panel on a question of women’s health.

Fluke’s work is focused on the rights of workers, immigration, LBGTQ, economic justice and international human rights.

U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley and state Sen. Fran Pavley, among other elected officials, have been invited.

The Garden Party is the club’s largest fundraiser. Monies will go to support candidates and propositions both locally and nationally.

Aug. 25 is the deadline to make reservations at discounted prices: $35 for students and seniors age 65 and up or $50 general admission. For reservations, call (805) 498-7262 or visit https:// actblue.com/page/GP13 or go to www.conejodemocrats.com.
