Defends Calabasas City Council

In a March 22 letter to The Acorn, Donn Burkholder criticizes our City Council members for ostensibly working against the interests of residents on the west side of Calabasas. He claims our City Council “completely ignores the concerns” of west side residents, fails to protect open space and furthers only the interests of those who live on the east side of town.

Regrettably, this is the same sort of divisive and untruthful rhetoric that was used by Toby Keeler in his second unsuccessful campaign for City Council.

We have never had a finer City Council in Calabasas than we do today. It is composed of five intelligent, dedicated, hard-working individuals who strive to be responsive to residents of every community in Calabasas from the west side to the east side. Keeler may have gotten some votes by playing one section of our city off against another, but his portrayal of our City Council is at odds with the facts.

For example, Councilmember James Bozajian and his four City Council colleagues championed our city’s visionary “Preserve Open Space Initiative.” This measure, which was overwhelmingly ratified at the polls by east and west side voters alike, assures that hundreds of acres of open space throughout Calabasas will be preserved in perpetuity.

Also, our City Council initiated and significantly participated in successful efforts to acquire Soka as open space.

Though Bozajian lives on the west side of Calabasas, he has been elected and reelected with strong support from voters on both the east and west side. Like his fellow council members, he works hard to fairly represent all areas of Calabasas.

The voters once again rejected Keeler because he ran a hypocritical, mudslinging campaign, not because of where he lives. Robert Pope Calabasas
