Deadline approaching for business award nomination





The Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) has set a deadline of Mon., April 25 for members and for the public to nominate individuals and businesses for VICA’s fifth annual "Excellence in Business Advocacy Awards" and Gala, an event that recognizes and celebrates the many outstanding companies, organizations and executives in the greater San Fernando Valley. The VICA "Excellence in Business Advocacy Awards" and Gala will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., June 9 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive.


Once the nomination forms are in, three finalists will be selected for each category by a panel of judges. These will then be voted on by the entire VICA membership through a secret ballot, and tabulated by a sertified public accountant. Award recipients will be announced the evening of the gala.


Categories for the "Excellence in Business Advocacy Awards" include: Achievement Award for Outstanding VICA Volunteer Advocate; Achievement Award for a Not-For-Profit Organization; Achievement Award for a Small Business [50 or fewer employees]; Achievement Award for a Large Business [51 or more employees]; and Achievement Award for an Outstanding New VICA Company.


Last year’s recipients were: Calabasas resident Fred Gaines, Gaines & Stacey, LLP, ONEgeneration, Win-Win Workplace Solutions, Precision Dynamics Corp., and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.


Co-Chairs of the 2005 VICA Gala and Excellence in Business Advocacy Awards are Larry Venema, district manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California and Vince Liuzzi, regional president for Wells Fargo Bank in the San Fernando Valley.


Founded in 1949, VICA’s mission is to encourage the economic vitality of the greater San Fernando Valley region by advocating on behalf of its business community.
