Day school educator receives award

Ilan Ramon Day School in Agoura Hills recently announced that Lia Mizrahi, a kindergarten teacher and a parent of two students at the Jewish school, is one of the recipients of the Lainer Distinguished Early Childhood Educator Award for 2013.

The award will be presented Mon., March 11 at the annual Builders of Jewish Education Bebe Feuerstein Simon Early Childhood Institute at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The award recognizes Mizrahi’s excellence in teaching and a deep commitment to early childhood education.

Mizrahi has a master’s degree in educational psychology with an emphasis on early childhood education from Cal State Northridge.

“She accepts and values children as they are and helps them reach their potential,” said Yuri Hronsky, Head of School at Ilan Ramon. “Her classroom is a place where children and families feel safe, respected and nurtured, a place where the magic of childhood is palpable.”

The Lainer family, known for its philanthropic, intellectual and cultural endeavors benefitting Jewish life, created the educator award to highlight the role that Jewish educators play in children’s lives and in perpetuating Jewish traditions and values.

Cash awards of $2,500 each are presented annually to exemplary educators from BJEaffi liated early childhood centers and religious schools.
