The Simi Valley Historical Society will host a COVID-friendly celebration of the annual Day of the Dead Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Sun., Nov. 1 at the Strathearn Historical Park and Museum, behind the Madera Target store, 137 Strathearn Place.
The event is free to attend.
Dia de los Muertos is traditionally a three-day observance running from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. It’s a celebration where deceased loved ones are revered.
Families build altars in their homes to commemorate the lives of lost loved ones.
This year visitors in the park will be limited in number. Guests must wear masks and be physically distance from each other.
Guests can sign-up in advance to participate in building an altar.
To sign up, go to docs.google.com/forms.
Visitors at the park can view the altars created by local families; shop at the outdoor market for Dia de los Muertos merchandise; walk around the outdoor areas of the park, and take an audio tour via phone while walking by the historic structures. The audio tour is a new feature.
