The question of whether Gavin Newsom should continue to hold the state’s highest office will be answered on Sept. 14 when voters head to the polls to cast their vote in a special recall election, the first since a 2003 vote that removed then-Gov. Grey Davis from office.
The vote almost 20 years ago featured 135, some not-so-serious candidates—including former child actor Gary Coleman and porn star Mary Carey. The winner, movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger, won in a landslide.
