Summer teen musical opens July 26

Young Artists Ensemble presents its teen summer musical, Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein,” July 26 through Aug. 4 at the Newbury Park High School Performing Arts Center, 456 Reino Road.

Performances are: 7:30 p.m. July 27, 28 and 31, and Aug. 1, 2 and 3.

A 2 p.m. matinee will be held Sun., Aug. 4.

The production is directed and choreographed by Mayme Paul.

Book is by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan with music and lyrics by Mel Brooks.

Musical direction is by Zachary Spencer with Susan Treworgy- Calkins conducting the orchestra.

Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-ensteen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania.

With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eyegore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors.

The production is rated PG as some material may be not be suitable for younger children.

Mayme Paul has over 100 credits on her resume. She has performed on Broadway, on national tours and in regional theater productions. She has directed shows all over the United States, including several for YAE.

In addition to musicals, she has choreographed commercials and the TV show “Northern Exposure.” She owned and operated a children’s theater company, Gypsy Productions.

Premium tickets are $23. Reserved seats are $21 for adults and $17 for children, students and seniors. Parking is free.

Super Discount Friday Performance on Aug. 2 are $15 for all tickets.
